Gratitude. Grief. Self-Love. Anxiety. Finding Peace within Chaos.

These are just a few of the more than 50 themes we have discussed over the last few years in our yoga television series. We hooked up with the terrific team at AMI (Accessible Media Inc). AMI is a not-for-profit media company that entertains, informs and empowers Canadians who are blind or partially sighted.

Our yoga series is filmed with such accurate descriptions of each pose, it lets people with vision loss follow along at home. What a simple concept – add a few extra words to better describe the movements and almost anyone can join in. We’ve learned a lot about the importance and often the ease, of making something accessible. It could and should be done more often.

Our series “Reflect and Renew with Kevin Naidoo” not only offers yoga; our incredible Saskatoon instructor also discusses the value of each theme and guides the audience through a meditation. We filmed 12 episodes to air in half-hour time slots on AMI-TV this fall. Each episode is then uploaded to its website. The show has even evolved to additional discussions with Kevin on social media. And here’s a quirky note: Kevin lost his vision for two years. The community helped raise enough funds for him to travel to Thailand for stem cell treatments and he gained back all of his sight! That is another unbelievable story in itself!

Anyways, we just wrapped up filming our fourth season. It feels good to think that perhaps someone with partial sight who never thought they could do yoga, now has the opportunity to try. Namaste.
